Welcome to St. Catherine's

End of the World (1977)

Father Christopher Lee walks into a diner and begs to use the phone (He has no money). The phone explodes off the wall, the coffee machine explodes into the owners face and he dives out of the window getting himself electrocuted on the neon sign.
Great start that. Lee leaves and meets himself. Weird.
And so begins The End of the World.

In a NASA type lab Andrew is getting mysterious signals from outer space, he works in a mysterious signals from outer space type base.

Space has sent THREE words

Large Earth Disruption!!!!!
How cool is that.

Andrew decides to go to a banquet with his wife, Sylvia, but they don’t seem to enjoy themselves that much. Andy can’t get those three words out of his head. On the way home they hear on the radio of an Earth quake in China, 20,000 people dead. Could this be the beginning of something? You bet.
Andrew then gets a second message

Ten Standard Minutes!!!!! South Africa. A volcano erupts in Zaire.
Spooky eh?

Husband and wife decide to investigate for themselves. Andrew’s monitors are pointing to a convent which seems to be the centre of activate. Enter Father Christopher Lee once more. Andrew is given permission by Lee to check out the convent with his groovy Power Impulse Meter. I wish I had a PIM.
Nothing is found so Andrew & Sylvia return home.

On his latest monitor message he and his wife are described. The message came from the convent. Sylvia & Andy go back to the convert for another gander but are easily captured by the freaky nuns.

Is Mr Lee responsible for talking to outer space? Could there be more than one Mr. Lee? Are they aliens trying to send signals back home?

Yes to everything above.

They want a Variants Time Crystal so they can fix their Time Warp machine.
Oh dear god it’s all gone crazy!!!!!

Andrew just happens to have a Time Crystal. I have two, just in case things like this happen.
Andrew must get his Time Crystal or he will never see his wife again. Sylvia’s not happy with all of this and who could blame her.

You see Lee and his band of nuns come from a planet with no death, a perfect world. They want to get back before our word dies. You see Earth is contaminating the universe with its disease and pollution. All the other planets have decided to destroy it.

So now Andy has to race back to his lab and get the Crystal to save his wife and help the aliens back home. E.T. this ain’t.

I like this movie a lot. It has a weird feeling to it and a very strange electronic soundtrack by Andrew Belling (Wizards). It’s written by Frank Ray Perilli who wrote Alligator and Zoltan (Love them to) and was produced by none other than Charles Band. It’s as slow as hell in some parts but I like that sometimes. Christopher Lee gives his standard job, I’ve never seen him bad, and the two leads are quite good.

Enjoyed it a lot.

2.7 on IMDB? To some it probably is.
